It is interesting that a lot of the top countries with the biggest debt problems have huge social programs. Obviously a large safety net costs a lot of money, and these countries have now realized that with debt levels 4 and 5 times the size of the countries' GDP.

I had no idea so much of the debt in the U.S was located in households. I thought we would have had significantly more debt in the government sector. It's shocking to see how Britain and Japan are doing. Looking at the where different countries debt lies and how eastern countries are not as bad off as many western ones is very interesting.

I knew that American household debt was high but I didn't think that it was that outrageous! Also, I had no idea that nations such as Britain and Japan were worse off than we were.

I think that it is better to have non-financial debt rather than financial debt since non-financial debt is loans to non-financial businesses and house holds which shows confidence in the economy. The united states non-financial debt is about double its financial debt. I knew that most of the U.S.'s national debt was owed to households and I think it is a great misconception that China "owns America".

It's kind of shocking to see Japan & Great Britain with so much more debt than the U.S. From the looks of things, this financial crisis is going to get worse before it gets any better. And at the rate that the U.S. is going, the whole idea behind China owning America looks as if it is definitley becoming a reality.

Had no idea our overall debt was that large of a percentage over our GDP, but looking at Japan and Britain I guess it could be much worse. I was also completely surprised that the household debt in North America, Spain, and Britain were that high. Given the perception of American, Canadian, and British households one would think we were doing fairly well financially.
